Welcome to Middle Hill
Southern Area Training Facility

Middle Hill Expedition Training Centre is a ‘Standard Country’ campsite located between Horsham & Crawley in West Sussex, it is surrounded by 40 acres of mixed woodland giving an excellent feeling of isolation.

The immediate surrounding area covers a patchwork of footpaths and bridleways enabling a multitude of routes away from roads-the safest of Expedition Training environments. Thirty minutes away are the North and South Downs, and less than forty minutes drive lies Harrison Rocks, suitable for climbing.

The primary purpose for the our centre is to enable the training and execution of all Sea Cadet Expedition Training activities up to and including the Expedition Leader Grade 3 Award. This is in addition to Mountain Biking, Climbing & Abseiling.

The centre also offers facilities for training in other SCC activities including Leadership, Physical Training, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Communications Field
Training, Junior Adventure camps, and Marine Cadet Field Training.

The Centre does not have permanent Instructors and all activities must be organised and controlled by individual Units or Groups applying to use the Centre.

In the event you wish to gain further experience, refresh your skills or simply assist on Area Expedition Training Courses, you are encouraged to contact the Commanding Officer of Middle Hill or the Area Staff Officer Expedition Training.
